In 2007, the newly launched UK Green Building Council – an organisation promoting a sustainable built environment through its work with building corporations, government and associations – commissioned TRC to design and build an exhibition stand for Ecobuild – the world’s biggest event for sustainable design, construction and the built environment, and the UK’s largest construction event of any kind, growing to over 65,000 visitors in 2013 at London’s ExCeL centre.
We worked with UKGBC to create a modular exhibition area that would stand the test of time and that could be developed and changed economically as the UKGBC business evolved. We managed the entire process from brief to build, working with the UKGBC consultant to engineer an exceptional quality of delivery, with its members to supply sustainable building materials, with sponsors to create networking space and branded areas, and with Ecobuild to help develop partnerships and negotiate space.
In 2011 we were also asked to design and manage the build and installation of the Big Tent – a large conferencing theatre, and to produce a significantly larger exhibition stand, pulling apart and adding to our original units from storage, to create the UKGBC Village within Ecobuild. As the Centre of Excellence for the event, our expertise in design and using sustainable materials was particularly important to ensure we delivered an area that supported the brand values and ethos of the UKGBC’s “Campaign for a Sustainable Built Environment”. In 2012 this area doubled in size to over 900 m2 and became a key focal point for Ecobuild visitors, drawing significant press and media attention, and incorporating two other TRC exhibition stands, that we designed and managed the installation for, the UK Trade & Investment area, and Ecobuild’s Innovation Zone.
In 2013, our work with UKGBC and its Sponsors opened doors for new strategic partnerships, new income streams for our Clients and new briefs to further develop their important positioning with Ecobuild, allowing us to design and create more networking facilities, sponsor areas and media space across the UKGBC Village, and to utilise our retail experience to produce an exceptionally visually stunning and large exhibition space.
“We engaged TRC to design an exhibition stand for our presence at Ecobuild in 2008. As an environmental charity, our brief was straightforward: we needed something that would be capable of being re-used over several years, that was created in line with stringent sustainability criteria, that could be constructed using materials and products donated from our members, and that was visually stunning, to stand out from the mass of exhibition stands and attract a lot of attention. TRC delivered a superb modular exhibition stand that consistently looked fresh year on year, was economical to change, and that allowed us to develop new partnerships and income streams from sponsors. It was always a great pleasure to work with them, and feedback from our team and company members about the work TRC has done with over the years has been excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.”
