Once every three years the world of retail converges on Dusseldorf for four days at Euroshop to look at trends, products, meet with new and old friends and also have some fun.
The trade fair is set over fourteen extensive halls and covers an overwhelming array of expertise ranging from Visual Merchandising to Retail Technology. A map of the exhibition site, comfortable shoes and a plan of action are essential tools.
At TRC our intrepid team of three, Matt, Hein and myself split up, set our pedometers and hit the stands.
Here are a few things that inspired us….
We saw a strong trend of tone on tone colours and a range of materials used across all manufactures. Display techniques were also interesting with a strong sense of repetition used to showcase poses.
There were some fantastic stands from retail designers with a real sense of theatre, interaction and story telling which could be translated to the retail environment. There was a wide range of high and low tech solutions and materials being showcased.
Interesting ideas integrating technology into the physical retail experience ranged from fitting room mirrors which helped you call for assistance with sizes or to order product if it was not in stock in the store, to lockers to hold click and collect deliveries of food at the correct temperature ready for pick up.
