Reebok
RSM Excellence
Driving brand awareness & growth

TRC  worked with Reebok for 20 years. During that time we were a key support for their RSM (Retail Space Management) Programme.

Focus on RSM was important to drive long-term growth, improve the brand image, resonate with the consumer and help get ahead of the competition.

Our holistic approach focused on 4 key areas:

• Training & Development
• Space Planning
• Visual Merchandising
• Tool Creation

We designed and ran RSM practical training workshops for Reebok teams, however in order to maximise reach we also created a self guided online training tool.

The online training covered:

• Identifying space
• Consumer journey
• Brand visibility
• Merchandising to capacity
• Building product assortments
• Core VM Principles

This training provided everything that someone needs to know when working with the RSM process.
As Reebok’s global store planning service provider, we had expert knowledge of all of Reebok’s retail concepts.

We used this knowledge and insight when providing store planning support for both new RSM spaces and when updating existing spaces.

From time to time bespoke design solutions were required for unique spaces as well as on site support for VM implementation.

Post installation we provided ongoing support to keep the RSM spaces refreshed to maximise visual and commercial success. We had a programme that included regular visits to Key RSM spaces across the globe.

Our visits included meeting the local Reebok team, retailers and store staff to understand the current performance then identify challenges and opportunities. We provided them with practical visual merchandising support, coaching and training if needed.

During a market visit we would take time to benchmark Reebok vs. the competitors so that we understood the local conditions.

Following a market visit we’d provide a detailed report and action plan back to the local & global Reebok teams.

We'd create Reebok’s Global VM Tools and work together to define the Global RSM VM Strategy.

The core VM tool was a Global RSM VM User Guide. In addition we also created retailer specific VM guides that showcased their specific product within their space.

Both guides provided clear product planograms for the Reebok teams and retail staff to easily follow.

Working with Reebok on the winning RSM formula we saw some great achievements, from increasing sell out to winning additional or more premium space within the stores. As a result of a  collaborative approach across both the TRC and Reebok teams we achieved both visual and commercial success.

“TRC are more than just our retail agency, they have become an extension of the Reebok family. They are an agency built on knowledge, creativity and passion and are a true pleasure to work with. TRC not only deliver creative solutions to complex problems, but they deliver solutions that drive sales.”

ECCO
Sweden
“Design a brand campaign window”

ECCO challenged us to create a premium window concept design for their Shape campaign landing in A/W’19 for 3 brand stores and the department store Ahlens.

The scheme needed to be adaptable in order to fit the 4 very different sized windows and in Ahlens the campaign was to be refreshed mid-scheme.

Digital content was a key focus for us to include in the ECCO stores and the brand provided some strong campaign content that we integrated into our design to create bold and impactful windows.

The project team consisting of retail designers and VM experts initially focussed on creating mood boards for 4 different concept executions through a process of sketching and creating visuals in 3D Max.

A selection of components were created onto which different textures could be applied and they could develop a principle that could be applied across all 4 windows.

ECCO then chose their preferred concept which was then worked up in more detail and a final pack handed off to the brand after we had briefed their local marketing agency who would be producing and installing the windows in the 4 different locations.

Four concepts were presented, 2 of which are shown below.
Examples of the window renders and final images of the installed scheme in the four windows.

Installation went without hitches, on budget and on time.

“The shape campaign has had excellent sell through and we look forward to seeing the next window campaign we designed when it's installed in October.”

ECCO Unity
Retail Concept
"Defining, implementing and refining VM Strategy."

We worked with ECCO to define the VM strategy for their Unity retail concept.

The objective was to define a product merchandising hierarchy and create a consumer journey that enables the customer to easily see the complete product offer.

Visual breaks and story telling tools were introduced to highlight key products from the brand marketing calendar. Once defined the VM strategy would be implemented across all channels of distribution.

Our first task was to assess the status quo, conducting a number of ECCO store visits throughout Europe and benchmarking against competitors.

After understanding the current retail landscape, we worked with a test store to identify key VM principles, establish which VM techniques could be applied to the existing concept and explore what additional hardware may be required.

These VM principles were implemented in a number of other test stores in order for us to monitor KPI’s and make any refinements.
We then designed and produced an easy to follow VM Guide that was used to implement the new VM principles.

The guide design had a strong visual presentation with minimal text to aid understanding and minimise the amount of translation.

Our Retail Design and VM teams worked closely together to produce accurate visuals of all of the VM principles in action to be included in the VM Guide.

The key to success of the new VM strategy was the hands on training & development workshops that we ran across all levels of the business in order to build a strong foundation of knowledge.

Since the initial implementation roll out we have been continuously running practical training and coaching sessions to sustain momentum, so that everyone within the business understands why and how they can implement the new VM principles.

We have also conducted Train the Trainer sessions in order to ensure that teams cascade their knowledge across the business, ensuring it is spread as wide as possible becoming an ECCO way of life.

We support ECCO in the EMEA region to implement with success by visiting 10 key markets, several times throughout the year.

During a market visit we work with the local ECCO team to:-

• Implement the VM principles in new stores
• Provide visual correction in previously visited stores
• Complete a competency based scorecard for each store visited
• Provide training to the ECCO team on completing the scorecard
• Identify further development opportunities

A scorecard is completed for each store detailing observations and an action plan. The score card approach allows us to assess how stores are performing and identify specific areas of development for future visits and training sessions.

A truly integrated and collaborative process, we have taken all our learnings from the VM implementation across the own retail stores and are now adapting the VM strategy for other retail channels and concepts, ensuring the ECCO consumer experiences a clear defined shopping journey wherever they are.

"TRC have become an integral part of a key strategic initiative to drive the enhanced performance and visual improvement of ECCO stores and conceptual spaces across the Europe and Middle East region.

The TRC team have brought passion, creativity and expertise, with the positive results over a sustained period of time proving the worth of the partnership.

Their ability to engage all levels of both ECCO and partners organisations including Senior Management, Store Design, VM, Sales and Store staff has added huge value, where it feels that we have a partner understanding, working passionately and delivering for the best interests of the brand”.

LINN
Harrods
“Design a new branded space"

We worked with LINN to design a unique space within the new premium technology department of Harrods.

We took time to understand their brand, its heritage and philosophy so that we could explore how to bring this to life.

LINN products are sold through independent specialist audio retailers who deliver excellent customer service through their highly trained teams. This space in Harrods was a perfect opportunity for them to speak directly with their target consumers.

Through our process of research, ideas generation, mood boards and initial sketches we produced a design built around a sensory customer journey.

The vibrant bespoke prints that clad the speakers attract the customer to the space where they can explore the range and exquisite craftmanship of the sound systems, turntables and headphones.

With LINN’S history rooted in mechanical engineering, the wall mounted lightbox contains an industrial landscape view with a crane as a symbol of Glasgow’s engineering heritage.

The displays are elevated by the colour palette of the wall and floor fixtures, which ensures that the product remains the focus. A dedicated listening room was built to ensure that any potential customers could hear the product at it’s acoustic best.

“TRC helped us design and build our new concession in Harrods. Opening our only Linn-owned concession and London flagship store was a brand new project for us, but Hein and Matt really took the time to understand our brand and our objectives for the concession by visiting us and experiencing one of our hosted events. In addition, as we are not based in London, TRC met with Harrods to develop the design and discuss fixture requirements which was key in us achieving our deadlines. We had very strict brand guidelines to work to, but TRC made sure elements of our brand still stood out in the department. Hein showed excellent attention to detail in all the concession designs and fixtures that he created, which really helped us understand how we could make best use of the space. We are very pleased with our concession and all the support we received from TRC both pre and post launch. Thank you very much for all your help.”

“Designing a new concept children’s store”

We were approached by retail brand management company That Al Salasil, with an open brief to design and develop a new premium multi-branded kid’s retail concept.

The brief called for a concept that would deliver a retail environment that would be flexible, simple and premium but also somewhere fun, that was easy to navigate.

After a short visit to Dubai to meet the client and visit inspirational stores, we began an in-depth exploration into children’s play habits and environments.

Design inspiration led to the adaptable and developing eco-system of the African Savanna and its many animal inhabitants. From this, we created a geometric and modular design that allows flexibility and adaptability of all fixtures and furniture.

An inviting and luxurious facade where street meets the Savanna, first attracts the consumer and encourages interaction with a large geometric tree inspired by the silhouette of the iconic Acacia tree. This provides a cool extension of the stores interior.

The faceted materials and geometric shapes continue into the store where you first meet one of the many 3d animal characters. Like the animals of the African Savanna, all the characters in the store are important to create a dynamic environment to explore. The 3D animals provide pops of colour and visual breaks to the store layout, they are also fully interactive.

Interaction is what makes ‘Savanna’ such a distinctive store concept, and the central geodesic dome being the main attraction. Built to mirror the African Savanna, its safari tent like structure adds impact and theatre, drawing customers through the store.

With traditional games built into the interior, an interactive floor projection provides hundreds of games. Parts of the exterior are used as a visual merchandising tool. The central geodesic dome delivers a unique social experience that will engage and excite customers.

The target consumer has a taste for high end International fashion, therefore the design of the fixtures and furniture enable a clear definition of each brand. The luxury gloss white and gold materials allow for simple presentation of product, whilst the modularity is in keeping with the geometric design.

This unique consumer journey ends with a visit to the cash desk. Designed to reflect a playful elephant emerging from a waterfall, it carries on the theme of fun and interactivity. With so much to occupy the senses in the Savanna store, the large and brightly coloured elephant and the glass cubes echoing falling water, ensures it is easy to navigate to your final purchase.

A cross functional team of visual merchandisers and retail designers ensured the success of the project from start to finish.

“The store, with its eye-catching design and charismatic geometric animals continues to attract, excite and engage with both children and parents alike.”

“Supporting a new concept rollout”

TRC worked on a new project with Reebok’s Global Environment design team to support Reebok APAC rollout a new ‘lifestyle’ retail concept across their territory.

We worked together to get feedback from the local teams in order to create the final Concept store planning manual and the VM user guide used to support them at every stage of the rollout process.

The images show the first store with the new Vector lifestyle concept which opened in Shibuya, Japan.

After the initial concept feedback and refinements we travelled out to China to work with their prototype store.

We experimented with the new fixtures and store layout using the current product assortment.

Then we worked together with Global and the local VM’s to create a range of VM principles as well as identify if any additional hardware or adaptations were required.

On our return, we met with the manufacturer for a detailed prototype review.

All of our learnings were shared with the manufacturer so that they could find cost effective adaptations in order to ensure the retail concept provided a commercial solution that presented the brand with visual impact.

We then created 2 guidelines, the Concept store planning manual and the VM user guide.

Our VM and 3D teams worked together to create highly visual, clear and easy to follow guidelines. Ensuring accurate visuals in both guides, that strictly followed the space layout and VM principles agreed when working in the prototype store in China.

The detailed store planning manual enables the APAC region to plan their own stores during rollout, with us providing a remote checking service to assist with the fixture ordering process.

A truly integrated and collaborative process, from seeing the initial prototype set ups in China, being hands on and merchandising the spaces, followed by a detailed prototype review meeting, planning the spaces, and creating the VM and Planning manuals for the markets.

“Having worked in the environmental/store design industry for well over 25 years, it has always been important to me to have great business partners to bring the projects I work on to successful ends. TRC has been one of those partners to me and Reebok. Their expertise, professionalism, and commitment to my brand are second to none.”

“Designing beautiful spaces all over the world”

We started to work as a partner with Orlebar Brown in October 2013 in order to support them to develop a Retail concept that defined their brand identity and elevated the consumer experience as they build the brand globally.

The need for a modular retail system that could be easily sourced globally, would ensure that both owned retail and wholesale accounts could be opened efficiently with a consistent look and feel.

Harrods
“Designing a POP UP space”

Derek Rose required a 9 sqm Pop up in Harrods to show a new range of sleepwear inspired by the yearly holiday travel of the Rose family to India.

The Pop up was to be in-store for approximately 3 weeks.

The fixtures needed to allow hanging sleepwear consisting of tops and bottoms as well as gowns.

The carpeted space was open from all sides and accessible from two walk ways with one large rectangular column occupying one of the corners.

The design needed to showcase the product and draw direct influence from the ‘Hero’ print as well as allude to an Indian temple architectural style, pattern and feel.

After initial research, the team started to generate some design ideas based on the scalloped arches typically found in Indian temples.

Initial sketches and material sample boards were created and shared with the client.

The VM team were able to provide insight and guidance into how the product should be displayed which then directed us onto fixture heights and structure, whilst still respecting Harrods retail guidelines and standards.

We had to be mindful of the budget and limited installation time.

Printed 10mm Foamex panels presented itself as the perfect medium for the execution as it is lightweight and easy to manufacture.

The colour palette was drawn from the ‘Hero’ print as pale blue and crisp white.

All the components were manufactured, cut and printed in two short days and ready for the night install at Harrods. The install from unwrapping to completion was done in under two hours.

Due to the sell through rate being significantly greater than expected Harrods requested that the POP Up remained in place through to the New Year, 10 weeks in total, so happy client.

“We have been working with TRC for over a year and so far have been really impressed with their store planning services and project management. This Christmas they seamlessly managed our women’s pop up at Harrods from design and approval through to production and implementation.  They delivered on time and on budget. They have a real passion for retail and are a great team to work with!  I would have no  hesitation in recommending them.”
