Orlebar Brown - Sloane Avenue store refurbishment

As part of a residential and retail refurbishment project undertaken by Brompton Cross Estates and Helix Architecture, once again TRC collaborated with Orlebar Brown to plan, design and layout this flagship store in the heart of Chelsea.

In addition to designing the space in a holistic sense, in keeping with the OB palette and unique look, focus was also given to new individual fixtures and key areas such as the cash desk, accessory unit and a grand staircase bathed in light from a very large graphic light box bringing the two floors together and drawing you in like a moth to a flame.

The cash desk, also known as the lifeguard hut is inspired by iconic lifeguard stations found on tropical beaches around the globe with angled sides, a corrugated roof and the familiar kee klamp rail system already a solid icon of the Orlebar Brown Store fixture design.

The new accessory unit was carefully planned and designed to work hard as a sales driver with high configurability and large amounts of storage whilst complimenting the store design perfectly. Large perforated metal circles allow product to be highlighted in a curated fashion making a bold statement departing from the boring archetypal slat or pegboard so often found even in high end retail. Consisting of modular units, the accessory bays can be scaled up or down thereby firmly establishing its place in the Orlebar Brown standard fixture set for future stores.

Featuring two generous fitting rooms on each floor, the ground floor provides a slightly larger fitting room making it easy for use with a wheelchair. The basement level hosts the sports range highlighted with large bold red laser cut ‘OB Sport’ lettering above the rails.

In addition, the store relies on feature elements like seating and a large fiddle fig leaf tree in the centre of the sales floor bathed in natural light from a sky light and circular ceiling mounted light box to create a relaxed and personal space evoking memories and thoughts of a tropical holiday destination.

From their initial retail design concept in 2007, we are proud to continue to share OB's journey and are excited to be developing new and exciting additions and features for their growing portfolio of global stores .
